Ithaca-on-Hemp Tradition (Heartwood Morris)
A dance in the (modern) tradition of Ithaca-on-Hemp for a multiple of 3 dancers with a multiple of 6 long sticks. The music is a traditional Finnish folk tune, arranged for Morris dancing by Peter Hoover.
Dance Notes
Danced with two long sticks held at the base. The beat and stepping for this dance is unique and used throughout both the figures and chorus. Standard 3-person Ithaca-on-Hemp stick dance figures. Ends on rounds (bonfire) with a rapid 1-2 beat at the end.
The chorus is repeated twice, as follows:
- All clash to yourself
- Wait a beat
- Point clashes right-hand sticks with squire
- Point clashes left-hand sticks with anti-squire
- Wait a beat
- Squire clashes right-hand sticks with anti-squire
- Squire clashes left-hand sticks with point
- Wait a beat
- Anti-squire clashes right-hand sticks with point
- Anti-squire clashes left-hand sticks with squire
- Wait a beat
- All clash right-hand sticks in middle
- Wait a beat
- All clash left-hand sticks in middle
- All single caper into the place of the person to their left (turn over left shoulder)
